  • Schedule: Classes meet weekly--Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during the school year. Class sessions are available from 9:00-11:00 a.m.

  • Levels: Three levels of instruction are available; beginner, advanced beginner and intermediate.

  • Class Structure: Classes are small, informal, and structured around the needs of the learners. The program is coordinated by longtime volunteer teacher and Board member, Janet Manning, who works along with a certified classroom teacher.

  • Curriculum: Curriculum focuses on communication skills for the workplace and social environments, and examines cultural issues as well. Textbooks, workbooks, current events, audio and video instruction are included in coursework.

  • Evaluation: Evaluation takes place at program entry, midway through the year, and at the conclusion of the school year in June. In addition, clients complete a program evaluation survey to provide feedback to El Primer Paso staff and management.

  • Extra Help: Students are welcome to bring their questions or documents to teachers for individual assistance. Citizenship preparation classes are also available on demand. Instruction is not limited to Spanish-speaking students; El Primer Paso serves people from a variety of language backgrounds.
